I d say generally a gas line. That would depend on exactly what has to be done. But water lines, you ll have both hot and cold , along w/ drains. You ll use a plumber for both so get an estimate from one, since only an in home visual will be able to tell you GL

I would say the water line- because of the cost of copper right moving the gas line would cost alot more.

Tough question without seeing your situation. If the kitchen is above an un finished basement it should all work out easily. Now adays most states are allowing plastic pipe–PEX for water and Arflex for gas which sure makes moving things around easier with less intrusion. The drain might become an issue of it is out of the way. Get yourself 4 estimates from licensed Plumbers. Throw out the highest and lowest and pick the guy you are most comfortable with from the other two- With the Economy the way it is most guys have cut their rates to get a piece of the little work going on.
